A FORMULA THAT WORKS FOR YOU!

ADVANTAGES OF WORK-STUDY PROGRAMS
What they offer

Work-study programs allow you to learn about a profession or career of your choosing and to participate in the the labour market. Work-study programs allow you to spend time in a work environment and provide experience, maturity and motivation. You gain visibility with potential employers, which could facilitate your entry in the labour market after your training. In some cases, your training is paid.

A CLOSER LOOK AT WORK-STUDY PRACTICUMS
Practicums in the workplace differ slightly, depending on whether you are enrolled in a vocational or a technical training program.

Vocational training
• At least 2 practicums
• Short practicums (e.g. 2 to 3 weeks, or 3 days in class and 2 days in the workplace)
• Practicums are generally unpaid
• Practicums represent 20% to 30% of the overall duration of the program (most are included in the program schedule)

Technical training
• At least 2 practicums
• Medium-length practicums of 12 to 16 weeks
• Practicums are generally paid
• Practicums represent 20% to 30% of the overall duration of the program (but are not included in the program schedule)

All educational institutions will help you find a host company for your practicum, and some will even find it for you. In addition, when you’re in the workplace, you will have the support of your educational institution and your on-site practicum supervisor.

YOUR ROLE
You must make a personal commitment to the work-study approach and assume full responsibility for your success. To succeed, you must agree to participate on-site in each scheduled work phase. You must also conform to the host company’s standards and adopt the appropriate behaviour.

EASY TO ENROLL
To be eligible for a work-study program, you must first meet the program’s requirements. You must then enroll on a full-time basis. It’s that simple!
